Welcome Your New Employee
Hi there. My name's Candice Elliott and I am a human resources strategist. In this video, I'm going to be talking about a few different ways that you can make your new employee feel welcome on their first day. The first thing to do is to just have an outline of everything that you're going to cover with them. That way you collect your thoughts ahead of time and you know exactly what you're going to do. The second thing is to block out time for them on your calendar, whether it's 15 minutes if that's all you can grab or an hour, a half day, or a full day depending on the position and the responsibilities. Make sure that you block out the time for them.
The next thing is to have their workstation set up. If it's you or someone else doing that, just making sure to have their computer or their laptop, all their passwords and everything that they're going to need for their first day already there for them.
Next thing is introducing them to the people that they're going to be working with so that they know who they're going to be spending all of their working time with. We spend most of our lives at work and so knowing who you're going to be spending your days with is really important, especially on the first day. Then one thing that I really loved in one of the places where I worked was that everyone really expressed to me their gratitude for my being there and their happiness that I was joining the team and it really impacted me a lot. I really recommend just expressing to this person how much you really are happy to be working with them and how much you're looking forward to the projects that you'll do together and in working together for a long time into the future.
I hope that helps you welcome your new employee and creates a memorable first day for them. There's another video in this section that's on employee orientation, so that covers a little more in [00:02:00] detail about what an orientation day could look like.
